Stephen Curry’s 62-point outing against Damian Lillard reminds NBA world of his powers

In hindsight, Stephen Curry’s body movement and swagger during his predominantly frustrating first five games this season should have been taken as a warning.

Even as the Warriors were blasted by the Nets and Bucks in quick succession to start the year, Curry darted around the perimeter taking many of the trademark shots he had before his injury-shortened 2020-21 campaign. That the majority of his heaves didn’t go in was irrelevant — since high school, his slumps have rarely lasted long.

In Golden State’s 137-122 Sunday night win over the Trail Blazers, Curry finally accompanied his offensive approach with accurate shooting. Anyone who didn’t believe that would come doesn’t understand how good the man is at basketball. Even his biggest supporters, though, were left in awe by his career-high 62 points in just 36 minutes. He made eight 3s and went 18 of 31 from the floor.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr offered a response to those critics in his postgame news conference: ”Hope they’re saying something good about him tonight.”

They certainly were.

Here’s a collection of the reactions to Curry going off for 62 points:
